The Pitch Palette Chord Detector and automatic Root Selection allows you to
play pure harmonic music by simply playing as you usually do. However, as you
proceed, you will discover that there may be points where you want to override
the default Root settings or even override your own changes to those settings.
The reason for this is that at any point in a piece of music there will be several
factors and artistic choices that will determine the best Root for a particular
chord in a particular passage.
Refer to the examples in Setup for ways to set up your Root changing system, either on your main keyboard controller, or on any optional controller. Some musicians like a foot-pedal controller for Root changes.
Another reason for manual Root changes is that you may want to make the Root change just before the chord is played. This can be done either with the sequencer or with a manual controller.
Obviously, the Chord Detector cannot detect the harmony until it is played,
and if your Hanger button is off, notes will not change while they are being
sustained. Most synthesizers currently do not allow notes to be changed while
they are sustained in any case. The solution is to Root the chord just before
it is played, either manually or with a sequencer.
